Object Oriented Models, IFC

IT in the Building Process, 3. april and 12. april 2007

Build object oriented models in Autocad/ADT, Revit or Archicad.

Export and import IFC models between the programs.

You need to install plugins from http://it.bt.aau.dk/ks/ifc/

• Autocad/ADT 2005
  • Install the IFC utility plugin (if you have another version of ADT, download trial from www.inopso.com )
  • Draw walls, doors, windows etc. from the Design menu
  • GtsIfc2xUtility: Initialize elements for export
  • GtsIfc2xUtility: Export Ifc2x
• Archicad 9
  • Download Add-ons from the address above, see the ReadMe.txt
  • Tools, Load Add-on
  • Draw walls, windows etc.
  • Save as IFC file
  • Import in Autocad with the GtsIfc2xUtility menu
• Revit
  • Get the latest version from students.autodesk.com
• Try to import and export very simple and more complex models
• Write down what was successful and what was NOT successful

• Try to install the DDS IFC viewer and browse your IFC models.

  Optional: The Solibri Model Checker can check the IFC model. The program is installed on the computers in room B-125. Try to run different tests on your model here.

Dwf format :

In ADT or Revit you should also try to publish your model to a dwf-file (Menu: File, Publish) which can be viewed in a web browser or the free dwf viewer http://www.autodesk.com

VRML models

Create a model from Autocad/ADT:

• create or load model in autocad/adt
• export in 3ds format
• load the model in Accutrans 3d http://www.micromouse.ca/
• Save as VRML
  

 

Create a model from Archicad:

• Create your model in archicad
• go to the 3d window
• save as VRML

 

Put the model on your web page to view the model in an internet browser:

• You need a VRML-plugin
  • e.g. Cortona, http://www.parallelgraphics.com/products/cortona/
  • or Octaga Player http://www.octaga.com/

Try to do this exercise in collaboration with another group.

Use MSN Messenger or a tool with similar possibilities.

Open a model in Autocad/Architectural Desktop.

You shal discuss details of the model with a colleague in anoter location, e.g. the neigbour group room.

Start the Messenger application and establish the contact with your colleague.

In addition to the normal text chat (and voice/video if possible), use

• Start the application sharing to share the CAD model
• Allow control to other participant and let him do some modifications in the model
• Use the whiteboard for communication, text graphics, images
• Store the chat and whiteboard
• Give a summary of your experiences with the communication session with examples/screendumps and store it for your report.

Use the Teamwork Menu to Sign In, Share the project, Send and receive updates, Sign Out ect.

Team leader:

• Start the project
• In this excercise you may load an existing project, e.g. in C:\Program Files\Graphisoft\ArchiCAD 9-S\ArchiCAD Examples\Orchard Project
• The team leader can define basic criteria
• Scale and measurement units
• Story structure, create a few stories
• Layers
• Attributes
• Grid and display options
• Library
• Tool settings

Administrator:

• Share the project
• Teamwork, Share this project...
• Store on server or one of your own machines

Team mate:

• Sign in to the project
• Reserve a workspace
• Edit model
• Send and receive changes to the model
