at formidle forståelse for hvordan produkt- proces information kan formaliseres under en produkts livscyklus samt at kunne anvende de gennemgåede teknikker og metoder vid analyse og design processer.

Indhold:

The course aims at introducing how models of buildings, Virtual Buildnings - VB, can be built to support
  • information access during sketch, detailed design, construction, and operation & maintenance of a both the virtual and physical building.
  • integration of building process system
  • collaboration in the building process
  • intelligent and responsive building behaviour
Formalisations and models of the building process used in the life cycle of the building are always more or less explictely built in the computerised environment. For example
  • the geometric properties of the building (form)
  • the building functionality and systems
  • the surrounding environment where it is placed
  • the persons working on the VB
  • the Information Technology, IT, tools used to manipulate the VB and to facilitatet the different building process parts e.g. project management and design team collaboration.

We will focus on both theories and practice in connection with

  • different adequate digital representations of building process information
  • standards to support communication of building information in all aspects
  • building of conceptual models and data models to represent the building process
  • how different parts of buildning process models can be and is integrated
  • introduction of tools to support collaboration using VB models, shared virtual workspaces, and project webs (including a visit to the VR Center)
Practical implementations will cover
  • design and implemenation of a small relational database
  • collaborative work in virtual environments supported by VB models and web/multimedia tools
  • access, handling of external buildning components (e-business, external product information)
  • properties of existing systems for sketching, design, quantity take-off, facility managament, and web based project management.
  • integration of additional building representations such as interactive images
Students should be able to answer the following questions after the course
  • how can we add intelligence to our drawings through database integration?
  • how can we make the geometric building model more intelligent?
  • how can VB models support collaboration?
  • which is the status and development trends for intelligent building models?
We will specifically use the following tools
  • Architectural Desktop from Autodesk, ADT, with integrated database
  • Classification schemes like IFC
  • Microsoft Access relational database
  • QTVR and photo stitching software
  • Adobe Photoshop
  • VRML models from the Cad system
  • Acrobat Exchange
  • HTML editors and application plugins (e.g. drawing view, VRML)
  • Netmeeting for collaboration


Studiekreds (Study circle)

the Study Circle will cover creative design of a building with intelligent and responsive properties. The building or some of its spaces shall be designed (sketched) to accomplish some advanced characteristics services see also (Christiansson, 2000)
  • be flexible and responsive to different usage and accomplish 'intelligent' behaviour
  • support human communication (between individuals and groups also remotely)
  • be equipped with actuators and sensor to support pervasive conputing support
  • be equipped with integrated things with embedded intelligence
The Study Circle shall accommodate
  • computer supported collaborative work
  • 3D presentation of function and form for derived solutions
  • a small example on a possible supportive building database (e.g. description and properties of intelligent building installations and things)
  • documentation of the results and findings on a project web
